Over the past couple of years I have become increasingly obsessed with podcasts. Now during a commute to work I actually look forward to that undisturbed time where I can settle down and enjoy my latest podcast episode. There is something so soothing and yet highly interesting about listening to the sound of someone’s voice. It’s the perfect balance of switching off and relaxing yet also actively engaging the brain. So I thought I would put together a list of five podcasts I have recently been listening to and loving. There are so many more podcasts that I love, so will probably do a follow up post or a video on my youtube channel with a couple more. I hope you find a new podcast in this list to get stuck into.
1 – Happier with Gretchen Rubin
This was one of the first podcasts I remember listening to when I first discovered podcasts. After reading Gretchen’s book, The Happiness Podcast, about how to implement more happiness into your life, I was interested to listen to her weekly podcast. They never disappoint! She co-hosts the podcast with her sister, Elizabeth Craft, and their chemistry is great. They talk about all the practical and simple ways they have discovered and are still learning in life to make it that bit happier. One of the many things I have taken from the podcast is Gretchen’s discovery of the four tendencies. She discovered that people fit into Four Tendencies: Upholders, Questioners, Obligors, and Rebels and knowing which one you are helps you to understand why you react a certain way to different situations. Understanding this means we can make better decisions and lead happier lives. It’s a great, feel good, light hearted podcast and the episodes are normally around 40 minutes so great for a commute.
2 – Creativity Talks with Martyn Bell
This is another one of my favourites and not just because it is hosted by my talented boyfriend, Martyn, but also because of how diverse and interesting the interviews are. Each week, Martyn interviews a different creative person from anywhere around the world. He has interviewed a huge range of guests including actors, life coaches, film makers and even an expert gift wrapper! There truly is an interview out there for whatever interests you. Each interview is informal, relaxed and perfect to listen to whilst taking a break with a cuppa. It’s like you are listening in on two friends catching up over coffee. My favourite episodes have been Dave who is an actor and also part of the vlogging couple ‘Sophie and Dave’ and Carys Watford who is a talented film maker from London. Let’s be inspired to always continue to create!
3 – The Fringe Of It with Liv Purvis and Charlotte Jacklin
Now this is a brand new podcast, but I can already tell it’s going to be a great series. It’s hosted by Liv Purvis and Charlotte Jacklin. I have followed Liv’s blog and youtube channel, ‘What Olivia Did’, for years and find her highly relatable and likeable. The chemistry between her and Charlotte is great and you can tell it’s just two real friends having a good ole natter! I found myself nodding in agreement to so much of what they said in the first pilot episode on friendships. I can’t wait to listen to all the other topics they will cover.
4 – The Lively Show with Jess Lively
Another podcast I discovered a few years ago hosted by the wonderful Jess Lively. Jess is extremely positive and spiritual. If you are looking for a new wellness podcast and are open to, as she calls it, the ‘woo woo’ spiritual stuff, give it a listen. She explores the Law of Attraction and I have really enjoyed listening to her journey with it so far. Her tagline is to ‘add a little extra intention to your every day’ and you definitely feel that after listening to one of her episodes. She gives you that extra kick to get motivated and start working towards the life that you have always dreamt of living. She also interviews really inspiring and interesting people from all walks of life to share how they have overcome obstacles in life and live with intention. She also loves to travel and is never in the same place for long, so I love hearing about all her adventures as she discovers new places to live and explore.
5 – Serial with Sarah Koenig
This podcast is very different to the other ones I have listed but I had to give it a mention. Over the past few years true crime series have become increasingly popular. So it’s no surprise that this crime podcast which is a spin off of This American Life is a hit. I binge listened to the first season and the investigation into the 1999 murder of Hae Min Lee. It is very gripping and I ended up continuing to listen to each episode even after I got home from my commute. I just had to hear what happens next!
I hope you enjoyed hearing about what podcasts I have been loving and please let me know your favourites in the comments!
