Here is a good ole round up of a few things I have been loving this January.
TV SERIES – Gilmore Girls
I feel like I am a bit late to the party with this one! I remember watching some episodes when I was younger but to be honest I couldn’t remember much about it at all. Whenever I was scrolling though Netflix it would always be at the top of the ‘what to watch’. So one evening I succumbed and clicked onto it not thinking much about it. I’m now HOOKED. It is the perfect feel good nostalgic series to binge watch. It fills me with that cosy fuzzy feeling especially when I am all curled up with a cuppa. I have even got my boyfriend watching it! Very reluctantly at first but now I think he secretly loves it too. For anyone who like me had been living under a rock and hadn’t seen it, it follows the story of single mother, Lorelai Gilmore, and her daughter, Rory Gilmore, as they face life together in their small town. I’m looking forward to finishing it all and then watching the recent ‘A Year in the Life’. Let me know if there are any fans in the comments!
FITNESS – Yoga Revolution
I wrote a post on the 1st January before I started this 31 day yoga challenge which you can read here. It is a yoga challenge created by Adriene Mishler on her youtube channel ‘Yoga With Adriene’. Now I may be behind a few days as I skipped some days in January when I came down with the dreaded winter cold/flu. So even though I’m not completely finished I can honestly say it has been such a great achievement for me. I would recommended Adriene’s yoga channel in a heartbeat. She’s funny, down to earth and calming making practising yoga at home so welcoming and easy to do. There have been some days where I have resisted getting on the matt, like I do with every exercise, but I have never regretted it afterwards. It not only helps with strength, flexibility and toning your muscles but it is also so great for your mental health. Taking a bit of time out of your day to fuly commit to doing something good for yourself is something we all should make time for. It is great for anxiety and learning to let things go and puts you in a great head space for the day ahead.
BEAUTY – MAC Whirl Lipstick
I first bought this lipstick last year but I have really fallen in love with it this month. I keep reaching for it to finish a make up look and it’s the perfect wintery nude shade. I first thought it may be a little to dark for me as I tend to steer more towards pinker nudes than brown but I absolutely love it. It’s the perfect amount of brown to make a statement yet nude enough to not overpower. I think it’s going to be a staple lipstick in my collection for years to come.
BOOK – Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I set a 2017 goal of reading 25 books in the year and this was the first book on the list. I am a big fan of Amy as a comedian and was excited to see what she had to say. I am a massive SNL fan and frequently watch sketches also with Tina Fey and Kiristin Wiig who are my other favourite female comedians. Her book is uplifting, honest, informative, inspirational and absolutely hilarious. She tackles all subjects of her life, her work and her advice, all in a light hearted but very honest way. My favourite chapter was ‘Treat your career like a bad boyfriend’. It definitely gave me something to think about after putting it down. Next on list of Amy Poehler appreciation is to finish the TV series ‘Parks and Recreation’ which I am enjoying A LOT.
FILM – La La Land
So, I’m guessing this is probably in many peoples monthly favourites but I just had to include it. This film was something special. First off I adored the performances of Emma Stone and Ryan Gosling. They nailed it. Their chemistry, charisma and honesty translated through the screen right to me. Secondly, the story struck a chord with me. I trained in musical theatre and have spent a lot of my life auditioning. From the harsh reality of those awful auditions to the heart breaking scenes where it all just gets too hard. I must admit I shed a tear a couple of times. Lastly, the music is just incredible. I had listened to the soundtrack before seeing the film so had already fallen in love with it but hearing it in the film gave it all new life. Definitely want to watch it soon again.
BLOGGER – Hannah Gale
Lastly is a blogger who I have been loving this month. I have enjoyed reading her blog for a while now but recently have been so excited for her new posts. I also love her new YouTube channel where she posts weekly vlogs. She is so honest, relatable and funny. Her posts are always relevant and interesting to read from personal posts to high street fashion posts. Definitely check out Hannah Gale’s blog if you haven’t already!
So, that rounds up my January Favourites! Looking forward to discovering more reasons to smile in February. Let me know what you have been loving this month!
