I hope you all had a wonderful week and are ready to face week 3 with a ‘You got this!’ attitude. This is the third week of my blog series in which I set an intention or piece of motivation for the week ahead.
This week I was reminded of an incredible woman. A couple of years ago her TED talk really struck a chord with me. Her name is Amy Purdy and if you have a spare 8 minutes I urge you take the time to watch her TED talk below.
She tells the inspirational story of how she overcame a major obstacle in her life to ‘live beyond limits’. At the young age of 19 she lost both her legs below her knees, her kidneys and spleen after she contracted bacterial meningitis. She was an avid snowboarder and dreamed of living a life full of adventure, travel and excitement. After her illness she couldn’t see how she could possible live the life she imagined for herself. When faced with her new prosthetic legs and feet she fell into depression before she made the decision that changed her life forever. Instead of settling for what she was given she worked solidly to create her own legs and feet that would enable her to do what she dreamed of, including snowboarding again.
She has since become a world champion female adaptive snowboarder. She has also co-founded Adaptive Action Sports, a non-profit dedicated to introducing people with physical challenges to action sports, written a book and also taken part in the American TV series ‘Dancing With the Stars’. She’s a complete kick ass woman!
Her story continues to inspire me to not give up when faced with obstacles but to use them to get creative.
“Our borders and our obstacles can only do two things. Stop us in our tracks or force us to get creative.” Amy Purdy
So this week I’m going to ask myself this question…
“If your life were a book and you were the author, how would you want your story to go?” Amy Purdy
Each day we have the power to create our lives. Although we can’t control the obstacles we face we can control how we bounce back from them. Just because it all may not go the way we plan we can use these challenges to get creative and just maybe, we will live a life we could never have ever imagined.
Let’s create an incredible story.
I wish you all a wonderful week ahead.
You got this!
